the leaves are down
in market square
parched and thirsty
in the town
too soon they’ve fallen
dried and brown
not that they’ve been
noticed there
the people pass by
to and fro
does anybody really care
the leaves are down in market square
where faces do not smile or see
too busy are they
on their phones
they walk determined
in their stride
armed with back packs
and alone
too busy with their mobile phones
to notice anything at all
the leaves are down
in market square
the trees are crying out
in vain
in need of nothing more
than rain
does anybody really care
that leaves are down
in market square

Beautiful with a stark reminder for all of us to just look up to see the stars, in this case the beauty of autumn, sadly the cell phone has literally taken over and i see it in the old town square here too, the other day a bunch of Spanish school girls put a phone on a statue to film a dance video of themselves nooooo. Sending loads of love to you on this Wednesday dearest Cassie 🏴🌹❤️
Thank you so much Teddy for all that love. Today I saw a video clip of a young grenadier, on guard duty fainting. People stood by and filmed it, most of them youngsters. An elderly old lady, went to help him get up. Have a wonderful Thursday 🌹🏴❤️
Love this, Cassie. You make a very good point, and the repetition really drives the point home. A fine write. Cheers, Tom.
Many thanks Tom. Pleased you enjoyed and understood the message. Have a happy Thursday.
What I cherish about this gorgeous rendering of aka reality is the vivid image it paints of the world we now know too well, despite this genre and its gentler, higher calling beyond these vistas. Excellently rendered with a haunting refrain which tugs on the soul with an eerie voice of warning. Superbly poignant with grand details. Thank you for sharing.
Cheeky Missy, I thank you for your comprehensive and thoughtful review. I am also greatly encouraged by your words. All good wishes to you.
Good write Cassie. Some leaves don't seem to fall until about November - here anyway!
I see the leaves as a reminder of life, especially if facing bereavement. Flowers are too - mankind is like grass, and flowers are like the glory of mankind - here a while, then gone.
Thank you Orchi for your share. We have early leaf fall this year. The oak trees in the avenue are shedding their leaves already. This poem was written at this time last year while shopping in the town centre. People are oblivious to nature. All good wishes.
People pay little attention to what is happening around them be it the leaves, seasons, ecosystem or anything else. Nicely done Cassie
Sadly, nature does not feature in lives as much these days, particularly with many youngsters. Too busy on video games and their phones. They have no idea what they are missing out on. Thank you Soren for sharing your thoughts. Pleased you enjoyed this read Soren.
One of my favorite cartoons shows a line of lemmings headed for the cliff, each with his cell phone up in front of his face.
I shouldn’t laugh, but your response answers my poem perfectly Dan. Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a great day.

Some people really don’t take notice of those type of things .. when I walk around town sometimes I see a lot of pigeons and hardly anybody takes notice( or at least doesn’t seem that way ) .. I always do. Say hello to them ‘ sometimes ‘
A good writing I like how you have personified the trees ‘ crying out ‘
Don’t know why people don’t take notice
