A nation drugged

sorenbarrett

Chemicals in our water,  pollution in our air,
Preservatives in our food, an over the counter pharmaceutical fair
Coloring things we eat, microplastics in all
Calming ourselves in traffic by drinking alcohol
For what's leached out of our food, supplements we take
Strung out on street drugs, some never awake
Stimulants in cigarettes, so we won't burn up in bed
The news that works us up over travesties said
Social media to stir the coals and set ablaze the fire
Religion telling us what we can and can't desire
Political correctness, violence, bread of our daily diet
Video games, TV, internet, hypnotized in electronic quiet
Look at the poor, bloody war, trash littered shore
Drugged in a stupor feeling super, no one cares anymore

Not a good time to try to be human, is it Soren.
Apart from your allusion to ‘Political Correctness’, about which I now believe we will never agree, I’m with you all the way.

Thanks so much Dave I do appreciate your support my friend. Yes we may differ on some points but I like to believe that it is a matter of definitions. As to political correctness I believe it begins in our upbringing where politeness and consideration for others is kindled in our hearts and should be shown to all. But I am a believer in free speech and the right for some to be rude and ugly just as nature leaves some with physical beauty and others not. I am not a fan of plastic surgery imposed by what others think is beautiful.

Oh what have we have become. I have a real hankering for times past. As I read this from a local coffee shop, the thunder has started and it is pouring with rain. I have added to the darkness. A great write Soren.

The world is a mess. This poem is well-constructed and we are right to be angry. I love the rhyme and the message

Bravo and hooray for you. You have stepped outside your normal short insights and are just as eloquent in protest. Like minds.
