Clean Sheets

Neville

Clean Sheets

Those fresh laundered sheets

of hers

were a time limited pleasure ..

Enjoyed

by so many, but briefly like

fragments

of fluffy white clouds against

the backs,

front and the sides of those

who

would occasionally visit her ..

Always

warmly welcomed, yet never

once loved ..

But enjoyed like a kiss from

a cool gentle

breeze, on a hot summers day ..

It’s like you tore a page out of my nonexistent diary:
Regular visits, always clean sheets.. Good with zero emotional commitment. Then one Saturday another male already there. Coffie round well used kitchen table inherited from her mother. All cool. He seemed like good guy. Same language of origin; obvious empathy between. Left after coffee. Perhaps all he knew of me was a casual neighbor passing the time of day……. Best wishes to her, she was lovely.

It weren\'t you woz it .. I distinctly recall popping round to her gaff with a white gerbil in a shoe box (she said she fancied one) so I thought I would give her one .. When I lifted a corner of the quilt the first thing I noticed (as one does) was the beard .. Yep, she was lovely, throughout summer into fall .. Neville

And it weren't you either - unless you are a native Italian speaker....

Fine words Neville but love takes it beyond not being loved.
