Well on National Coffee Day, these are literally the first lines which came to mind...
I Never Could Say That I Knew
(sonnet #MMMMMMMMDCCCXCII)
Was't tea, or Pres'dent's Brie? steam's exhale
Long cherished in ascent 'non rises thence
Unseen, th'indulgence in the cooling sense
Of morning now a question--which detail?
Come, rosy lea is that recure t'avail,
Brewed fresh, or chilled and mingled for intents
With lemon til whatever ailment hence,
Eclipsed by tea, feigns t'would own waltzing bail.
And coffee? Nash'nal Coffee Day's in tour
Upon us and I failed to prime is't? to
Effect the La Pavoni. Th'espressos poor
With nary wisp of steam, oh what'd I do?!
Let Barry's be a happy mem'ry. Stir
Solutions as the French press swears it knew.

That seeming insufficient for National Coffee Day, begin again...
On National Coffee Day...
(sonnet #MMMMMMMMDCCCXCIII)
Mum never did like coffee, drinking thence
Cuz it was "cool" in college to derail
Yer childhood sleeping habits, and avail
New night owl forays with caffeine's defense;
But she ne'er liked the black stuff. Daddy's sense
Of coffee was artistic, aught detail
More a discov'y, as he said t'was bail
For thinking, NOT medicine to quaff. Whence?
I grabbed Main's Treas'ry, to sit down in tour
And mull oer joe these stanzas I ne'er knew
To be more than pure gibb'rish. Was that poor?
Since then I've found my niche. Espressos to
French press or Moka pot, whilst I bestir
Reflection, I prefer black tea. And you?

- Comment from author about the poem: In my mind Sundays are the day for pulling espressos, and it being both that as well as National Coffee Day today, it was rather disconcerting the La Pavoni which had been pulling fairly decent shots recently, oddly could hardly give me more than a couple sips. So, I sonneteered, emptied it, let it cool, and pulled decent espressos... to find that I'm pulling third shift tonight. Ugh. Anyway, enjoy?

A good cup of java or tea would be nice. A fun read
Fantastic work. I love coffee.
As did my late father. Thank you very much, Sir. I hope you enjoyed National Coffee Day.
Nicely done. A fine write, perfectly written as always. And I find that a good cup of tea cures all ills. 🙂
