Walking into the Light

J.Edse

Night rider
coming down the path
flashing me
with white hot
strobes

dancing
so bright
devouring
the world

I can’t wait
till he’s past
I think
he’s blinding me
something horrible
but I reconsider
as he comes closer
I understand him more.

I’ll miss him
lighting my way
showing me the next steps,
and like day becomes night
he passes
moving perilously
pedaling fast and
breathing hard,
towards a never ending
nothing

one where he doesn’t know
where he is
or what’s up ahead
but just keeps going.

And as he passes
I give him a little salute
wishing I was
on that bike with him.
