Canvas In Our Imagination.

Goldfinch60

A song is like a painting in words,

As it blends imagery and emotion,

In a narrative that brings scenes,

Brings feelings, and stories to life.

Much like a painting uses colour,

Colour, light, and texture

To evoke a response,

A song uses lyrics,

Lyrics melody, and rhythm

To paint a picture

Paint a picture in the listener’s mind.

Each element of a song

Tone, metaphor, phrasing

Can create vivid images,

Just as a poem can

Through its careful selection

Careful selection of words.

Both songs and poems are forms of art,

Forms of art that transform,

Transform the intangible emotions and thoughts

That can be experienced by others.

This makes each one a unique “painting,”

Where the canvas is our imagination.

Have long thought of poetry as a solo performance while a song takes the solo performance to the level of a symphony. A very nice write Andy

When I was growing up we were made to think of songs as poems that are put to music and of poems as songs minus the scoresheets. Both indeed are a sublime art form!

                • Goldfinch60

                  Very true arqios, thank you.

A lovely poetic definition here Andy, and the title alone is superb.

May our mind-forging canvases make happier worlds to build brighter days.

I hope that all is well.
