I, I Guess I'll Hafta Look VERY Sheepish

Cheeky Missy

Well, I mean, I've not thought of Samuel Daniels in forever, seems.

Who'd Ever Thunk?

(sonnet #MMMMMMMMCMXXXIV)

"Care-charmer sleep" as Samuel Daniels'd hail
Dear slumber in his sonnets, I ask whence
Sith thou'st erased the chalkboard, leaving sense
Bewildered now thet my alarm's detail
Goes off, what happened ere I slept sans bail.
New notions trick my fogged mind til defense
Hides in a corner as agin pretense
Is trounced when it goes off. Oh, what'd avail?
Remember vaguely what I drew up fer
The plans of when I rose, cuz nothing new
Appears to dance upon that stage in tour.
Git dressed and brush yer teeth; the lunch thet you
Forebore to eat pack up 'gainst oernight. Were
There else, oh! get to werk to find where to.

...I guess I was too full of wanting Bavarian Cream Pie[looks sheepish]--from saving a huge bucket of the filling on Amazon to dreaming periodically of just buying one to now with a gallon of heavy cream, erm,...this.

On National Boston Cream Pie Day '24

(sonnet #MMMMMMMMCMXXXV)

Night is a diff'rent world, the driving sense
I'll get to werk and then think which detail
And what, all that I know. What of the tale
Of hours before? Bavar'an Cream Pie thence
Upon my mind all year, misread fr'intents
Which item is thus féted, and avail
Me fin'lly, to find out in sheer betrayl
Tis Boston Cream Pie Day; don't ask me whence.
I don't want cake and pudding. Pie as t'were
Is on my brain and cream, yes, cream is too.
This treat was s'posed to realize its day fer
All that on my own birthday?! Well, what to
Do then shall be discovered. I'll, um, stir
Up my first cream pie and I'll share. Will you?

  • Comment from author about the poem: Stuck pulling third shift, it's curious Samuel Daniel's line came to mind while composing: "Care-charmer sleep, son of the sable night/" is, I believe, the first line which William Drummond of Hawthornden invoked as did others long ago, and finally little me?! Enjoy these?

Haha, sorry, seriously that I cannot serve you up a piece of it immediately since the filling I was dearly wanting was indeed as delicious as heart long wished. Thank you so very much!

A couple of belting pieces there, Missy. Thanks a lot for sharing. I love the way you mix modern words with the olde-worde. It feels so very modern and yet antiquated all at the same time. Very well done. Cheers, Tom.

Aww, you're so sweet, thank you very much, Tom! As I replied above, I seriously wish I could serve you a piece, but alas, I cannot. Ya that's me, honestly, face to face and in my sonnets I mix up language new and ancient as if it's just dandy. Thank you again!

Haha, yeah, there should be a way to send treats through this website. 🙂 And yeah your poems remind me of the DiCaprio Romeo and Juliet, blending the old and the new. Love it. Cheers, Tom
