Chained Dragon

Dove

Aching scales, a heart of stone,
A dragon chained, a king dethroned.
Once, he soared on wings of fire,
Now, a captive, a prisoner's pyre.

His breath, a furnace, choked and stilled,
His roar, a whisper, barely spilled.
The chains that bind him, cold and tight,
Stifle his spirit, steal his might.

He dreams of skies, of wind and sun,
Of mountains climbed, of battles won.
But here he lies, in a cage of steel,
His freedom lost, his spirit frail.

The world he ruled, a distant dream,
A phantom king, a broken gleam.
His eyes, once fierce, now filled with pain,
Reflecting sorrow, endless rain.

He watches birds, with envious gaze,
Their wings unfettered, free to blaze.
He longs to break these bonds of might,
And reclaim his birthright, his flight.

But hope flickers, a dying ember,
A dragon chained, forever somber.
His freedom lost, a bitter sting,
His misery, a mournful thing.

So here is a soft feathery Dove advocating for a fiery dragonโ€ฆ.. The world could do with large doses of that kind of empathy and insight right now.
Havenโ€™t sighted you for ages โ€“ thought you had flown awayโ€ฆ.

If this is meant to be a whole series of metaphors back on back that make the page look pretty and near glow, with a yearning to be free or worse, to break free .. then you have done a bloomin sterling job Mistress Dove .. Just remember two things sweetheart .. Firstly, .. I've know ya since you woz first an egg and then write throughout those formative fledgeling years .. and secondly, I've told you before if you want out and pledge your soul and other bits to me (it is Halloween after all) then I know a couple of good hit men who would be more than happy to help you achieve the afore mentioned objectives .. Anyway, don't say I haven't tried to help .. and before I let you fly away again .. I don't mind admitting I found my visit here just now to be most refreshing, enlightening and otherwise extremely well constructed as per usual tho' not so often these days .. I do hope wherever you may have landed, you take note of my advice and the offer contained herein this somewhat elongated rectangle .. Assuring you of my devotion .. Kindest of regards, Me .. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‘x

Oh my, thanks for the reply. Not planning on leaving. My other poetic site closed its doors, so was finding a place to save my poetry, plus I also accidentally erased a few years of poetry, so been busy. Thanks, no hit men needed. Thanks Again Dear , you know I take your advice with gratitude. Thanks again...
