Is anyone else frickin glad
to wake up on the morning after Halloween
knowing, you did everything you could
to keep those trick-or-treaters away?
like,
smothering break-fluid on the path?
putting honey on the gate handle?
I mean I did everything possible
not to have them grubby little monsters
run up to my door
ringing the bell for sweets
waking Jasper
my fifteen-year-old Jack Russell
surprisingly, this year no one rang
maybe they learnt their lesson last year?
now I shall go wash my drive-way
and hose down my gate
then I'll take Jasper for a nice long walk
after all, today is a real holiday
It's the day we celebrate the dead
oh, by the way
it's only fifty-four days
until Christmas
now, I have to start loading buckets of water
for the Carol singers
because Jasper loves singing.

It is so strange Teddy, I have been in this house for 24 years and never had a trick or treater come to my door even though I always have treats ready for them.
Andy
lol shocking dear Andy 🤣
Some say humor for me more like reality. In my neighborhood all the kids grew up and moved away no trick or treaters. As for Christmas I'm a bah humbug type of guy. Love and family okay but no comercialism. A most fun read
Why thank you dearest of poets I absolutely adore Christmas. And I wouldn't really throw buckets of water over the carol singers 🤣 or would I? LoL
In our street if the welcome light is off, then trick or treaters aren’t meant to venture past the footpath. It’s worked for years.
I guess it works like that here too, it's not an Italian holiday and most Italians don't open the door. Thank you so much. 🌹
Excellent write Teddy
Thank you so much dear Tony. 🌹
You're welcome
Going through "Halloween Withdrawal" here. We lived in Salem, Massachusetts for 50 years before moving here, and there, the month of October was called "Haunted Happenings.". Here, we got 3 trick or treaters. In Salem, it was like a little "Mardi Gras," for the entire month.
I enjoyed the humor in your poem, "Honey on the gate handle?" Really? We celebrate the dead, on May 31st, Memorial Day.
Loved your poem. - Phil A.
LoL yes honey is a bit too gold maybe next year super glue lol awe thank you dear Phil it's lovely to hear your memories well today is actually saints day tomorrow is the celebration of the dead. Thank you Sir. 🌹
Love your satire, always! I tried to treat them but alas, they’re all in college. Is this all happening in Italy?
lol come next year to see for yourself? 🤣 We are not so much in celebration here, but I do make a wonderful witch 🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹 lovely to see you beautiful Parisab thank you for coming by to my satire.
lol 😂
🤣🤣🤣 ❤️
Hey Teddy!! 🧸
🤣 awesome poem
and Halloween satire!! 👹🦇
To say I didn't laugh
would make me a liar!! 👍
Thanks for sharing poetess!!
Best wishes 🍀🤗🌹 Thad
Ah never be a liar, it's good to laugh, thank you for coming by to say dear Thad. 🌹
I remember Trick or Treating as a child, but aside from the yummy candy, it all just seemed like a waste of time and $$. Now Christmas is my kind of holiday. Love the colored lights, but I can do without all the early ads and commercials. It's about Christmas, not about money. 🙄
I agree, it was only when I left london at 28 to live in Italy did I ever understand the true value of Christmas, its about food a good glass of wine and truly family and just a small thought to say I love you, (pensierino) in London its all far too commercialised too. Thank you for such a gracious review dear friend. 🌹
We're on the same page my sister dear. 🫂
