Medal of Honour (An Acrostic Poem at Remembrance)

AuburnScribbler

Muddied and so broken, King’s shilling is

Expense, making all such thankful pride; a

Dugout plan past tense, nothing really

Alters, a fight there has to be, as

Laying down a path for love; bleeds

Out so willingly, shell shock and the

Fury, comprise a horror story, where

Hate is made state sanctioned, the

Orders of such glory, cancel every

Notion, just complete the mission, to

Outline; all the ways; a man can make division,

Underfoot is sorrow, they cry out every name, lo’

Ridiculed; by same old choice; that carries on the pain.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I thought I would commemorate the day, with a bit of a sad one. To the fallen, I both mourn and thank you for granting me to enjoy relative peace. But to those of us who are still living, there still remains a colossal scope of improvement; and yet; no real entertainment of any real change for the better. We really do need to wake up a positive alteration, else our core operation, that has spiraled downward to horrifying lows, will condemn our entire species to it's self-made extinction! True profit, doesn't lie in a bank vault or via the result of gory conquest. True profit, is looking into a mirror, and being able to smile at your own reflection! As you can see the first initials of each word are coloured accordingly: MEDAL is in gold, to symbolise the material wealth of war and humanity's endeavours in general, OF is in red, to symbolise both the poppy and the needless blood shed around the world, and HONOUR is in green, to symbolise the colour of the land that was fought for, before it became sullied by mankind's aggressive attainment. Despite its woeful tone, I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always please do stay safe everyone.

So many that have fallen deserve a metal and never got one who deserve recognition, and we never recognized, who died with courage that was never seen. Those are the true valiant, the true men of honor. Very well written.
