On this solemn day, we gather here,
Honouring those who faced their deepest fear.
Of sacrifices, humble, bold and true,
The dividends of their courage, aren't shy nor few.
In Flanders fields, where poppies blow,
The echoes of their valour, we stil know.
As Sassoon and Owen once did write,
Of youth and loss in the dimmest light.
"The Soldier" Brooke had penned with grace,
A vision of England in a foreign place.
Frederick Kesner, too, his verses share,
Of honour, hope, and unending care.
Bring it all in to view, the valour displayed,
The price they paid, the peace they laid.
Their memories live on, both near and far,
Guiding us like a steadfast star.
We stand in silence, heads bowed low,
For heroes who in battle's shadow go.
Their legacy, a beacon bright,
A reminder of their selfless fight.
For every freedom we hold dear,
Their spirits whisper, ever near.
On Remembrance Day, their stories rise,
With gratitude, we lift our eyes.
So let us keep their memory,
A testament to bravery.
For in their sacrifice, we find,
The strength to better humankind.

Wonderful poem honoring those who have sacrificed for all of us, no matter where we are from. Those of us who live free should honor those who keep us living in freedom. Beautiful poem! πΉππ€β€οΈπ€
Honour where honour is due! Thatβs a very important life cue. Thanks Tristan ππ»
Absolutely! Youβre welcome!
Beautiful and well written Crytic it speaks to those fallen in wars now fading into the past.
I feel that too. Even the more recent films donβt really cut it. Liked 1917 though, that was quite gripping to watch.
I love how you have referenced the war poets in this fabulous write as well as Freds. A very fitting tribute to those who
made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. A most poignant write. Great work.
Thanks Cassie! For me, everyone should be able to propose a βtoastβ from the giants of poetry to the less celebrated ones and everyone else in between. ππ»
So very sadly much enjoyed ..
My sadness overflows this time of year. My gramps served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
