it seems a tad distasteful
that raised wine glasses
clink for Amy
especially when her crusade
against alcohol addiction
became a lost cause
ten years gone while our
bluebird of happiness swings
in its usual place
suspended
from a central wooden beam
over our summer deck
silent appreciation
as back to black plays its dark
lament
as lantern light flickers
honeysuckle vines shoot strands
from beehive chaos
saluting the mistress of song’s
creative vowels
in scented respect

I do not drink alcohol but have suffered the effects of family members who were addicted, Thankfully, they have their acts together today. Your composition is a service.
Thank you so much. Pleased you found value in my poem. I appreciate your thoughts.

A very sad end and an extremely talented soul. Tortured but beautiful. Love Back to Black. Great album, great artist. Fitting tribute. Indeed, it is amazing at how insensitive and careless people can be with their alcohol traditions. Astute observation. Brava! 🌹🌹👏🖤
Many thank yous. Yes, she was a great artist and it is a tragedy how abruptly her life ended. I appreciate you stopping by to share your thoughts.
You are welcome Cassie!
A tribute to a sad soul who left us with much music having lived a life of pain and misery. Addiction is often chosen by artists as their medication of choice. Well expressed Cassie.
Thank you Soren. A sad situation altogether. She had a wonderful voice. I appreciate very much your thoughts and your visit.
Yet still not many really take much notice, as we just lost Liam Payne too, I remember sitting in disbelief, she really was a talent, fame took its toll, alcohol and drugs far to easy to find. Such a kind tribute dearest Cassie. 🌹
Thank you Teddy. All that talent gone so soon. Addictions too difficult for her to cope with. She had an incredible voice. Thank you Teddy for always supporting and your encouragement of my writing efforts. You are very much appreciated 🌹
❤️🇬🇧
Makes me muse about the disconnect… too many have been cut off from their possible life so early on, and we are still here whether or not we “deserve” to be, if that even is the word for it.
Addictions are a curse. We have had them in my own family and they cause immense pain to all. I am thankful that my dear one is still alive. She struggles so and so do we. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
The title says quite a lot! So we soldier on and muddle through.
Beautiful tribute. I can hear her as I read your poem. Such a loss.
Thank you Thomas. I love her voice. She was a one off.
You could, I think raise a wineglass without too much guilt as there were many factors, psychological, social, the industry’s pressures which contributed to Amy’s death. Your poem is in good company with the many and lasting tributes to a great talent, Cassie (Lassie incognito).
We did, we drank to her anyway Dave. Pleased you like my tribute to her. I was and remain a huge fan of hers. Thank you for stopping by.
A very poignant,
emotional and touching poem
and thoughts on the
horrors of addiction!😢
She was a fabulous singer 🎵 🎶
and so young to die of
this affliction....😕
Thanks for sharing poetess!!
Best wishes 🍀 🤗 🌹. Thad

Andy
Thank you Andy. She is missed. Such a wonderful singer, such a short life.
You just sent shivers up and down my spine .. what an amazing tribute to a one heck of an artist taken too soon .. Where did that decade go .. I remember visiting my son who lived around the corner from her and seeing all the floral tributes banners and cards ..
Many thank yous Neville for your lovely review. She has been gone longer than ten years. I wrote this a while back. She still remains a favourite female artist for me. I play her music quite often as I’m doing housework 🙂 Have a lovely day my friend. Take it easy.
I neva woz much cop with sums .. busy @ the mo but enjoy yorn .. N 😉👍
what an irony that glasses are raised in toast to one who crusaded against alcoholism.

My dad was an extremely bad alcoholic, he would make himself at least 3 large half and half vodka and grapefruit juice to set by his bed at night so he would have them to calm his shakes when he woke up in the morning. Needless to say, growing up was a story its self. I'm babbling on....love ypur sty;e of writting and nice to meet you as well.
Hello teardrop. Sorry to hear about your Dad. My own family have suffered similar. It’s not easy. Pleased that you enjoyed your visit here. Your thoughts appreciated.
