The Road
The road is dusty and dry.
It will make you lonely…. and make you cry.
You can travel for days and never be
anywhere…. you would wish to be.
The people you meet will steal you blind.
Those that don’t…. don’t come to mind.
The places you’ll see are dim and bleak.
The air you will breathe… will reek.
The road must be traveled alone
and walking…. like a complete unknown.
The women will tempt you in every way.
The best advice to you is …. just walk away.
Wear you heart on your sleeve and they will charm
you until you lose it…. not your heart but your arm.
Spend a night with her and you will wake up naked and alone
or worse…. you won’t and she’ll become your millstone.

Good write
Thank you, Mase.
Thought you had gone beyond that and given up completely. Phil - no acknowledgements to responses on your previous piece.... I hope all is well, despite the downbeat nature of this current post.
Thank you, DD. No, just away for a couple of days. Just trying to create atmosphere in writing. Thanks for caring.
Thatt's a relief. Stay well.
It can seem endlessly long, lonely and bleak can't it Phil .. I mean of course, the road and the route being travelled along .. My guess is, the she in question just turned most, if not all of the street lights off .. Well listen to someone who has travelled the same route before .. there's an on switch located just a way ahead a bit and though not exactly hidden, you have to make your way there and locate it .. I hope you can cheer up soon my friend and see the light .. Neville
Thank you, Neville. I found my "on switch" about 55 years ago. I was trying to create atmosphere in writing this. It is not factual. Thanks for your concern and I totally agree with your advice. When I found mine, you could have blinded Las Vegas with it.
Emotive words Phil, I hope all is better soon.
Andy
Thank you, Andy. All is well, just writing to create atmosphere.
This could be about many things but I'd put money on it being about route 66 🤣 dearest Phil atmosphere created. 🌹
