Ah Sleep

David Wakeling

Ah Sleep, to drift upon a river of feathers,
Way beyond the snowy clouds and Earthly tethers,
Where fairies fly and elves dance in the dark forest,
We see with ivory starlight on our noble quest,

As we walk this tiresome road of endless woes,
Take heart that in our sleep is a world of rainbows,
So how much more than our sleep is eternal death,
An overture of respite from this world of tortured breath.

So when the dark clouds gather and the Sun goes down,
Leave this troubled world with a smile not a frown.

Smiling through the sorrow and the pain and at times even through seething rage, what fortitude and grace!
