ashes from your urn

arqios

Notice of absence from arqios
Be kind….
…. words don’t rewind

Ashen grey is the house of remembering.
Before each portal opens,
your faceless bard swoons.

He strikes a drum of bone and brittle whispers;

With cracked powd’ry fingers,

he inscribes your name in dust.

He etches it longer than it ever was,
the curves of your urn.
You gather there your ashes and nourish my soul.

Sombre, respectful and raw. I resonate with this poem. Second stanza powerful.

      your faceless bard swoons

That tells me everything. The short stanzas suit this piece very well. It was touching and left a lump in my throat.

It wasn’t meant to accompany the morning’s hot drink. But I was attempting several things, including a bit of a homage to Paul Celan and my dad, both conveniently gone ahead of us reading and writing still. Thanks Cassie πŸ˜‚

Somber and sad poem of loss and missing someone near. Very well written with amazing imagery.

Good timing. My wife just returned from the UK, after having her mother cremated. Her ashes are staying on the mantelpiece, for now.
                  It's not worth battling, sometimes.

And still the battle is real. Sympathies to the family.
