Filled With Joy.

Goldfinch60

Into the monastery I went,

Sat down in the silence.

The monks came in,

The perfume from the incense mingles,

Mingles with their deep intoned words,

It filled the whole room.

I sit down beside the others and close my eyes,

Letting my mind drift,

Drift as the sound and the scent engulf me.

I feel as if I’m floating,

Floating in a space

A space between two worlds..

One of which is real,

One of which is imagined.

Where all who have passed are there

There in my mind’s eye.

I see all the people that I love,

That I love the most

And are here with me.

The cold, heavy sense of grief,

Sense of grief I’ve been carrying,

Carrying in my heart for so long

Is replaced by something else,

Something lighter,

Something lighter and filled with joy.

Did it mention 'numinous', as in a book I'm reading, some of which goes over my head - very intellectual it is.

No you didn't as I thought you had Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.

I can’t help thinking what an incredibly releasing feeling that might be. To lose the heavy weight and feel lighter. You took me there Andy. Great writing.

Oh you did it this time Andy! The language, the tone, the cadence, the music! A dramatic monologue of prime order. Slice me a fave and a like 👍🏻

Oh and this version rivals the 70s version… if I’m thinking of the same composition….

If you are thinking of the film Cinema Paradiso it came out in 1988 and is a film I have seen many times and the final scene plays the music and is very moving.

That’s probably where I’ve heard it from!

                  "Just" - Really?

                  • Goldfinch60

Yes it came from a book I have just read called "The Shy Beneath Us" by Fiona Valpy, I have read all of her books and this was the latest one.

Just one more thing, Andy - I'm trying to find a place on my PC where I can park 'Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia' safely for quick access to belt someone over the head with should they become too clever. Any suggestions??

You can put it on the main screen as a word document.

Very refreshing poem. It filled my mind and heart with joy, too. Sometimes music can carry one away to an idyllic place. Loved your poem. - Phil A.

This is quite a good look at a spiritual experience. We are not robots we have 5 senses. If you put 5 senses together there appears a sixth sense. Great poem compadre
