winter’s embrace

arqios

Notice of absence from arqios
Physically present, the rest may be somewhere altogether…

Snowflakes fall, a silent lullaby,
Blankets of white beneath twilight sky,
Bare branches etched in frost’s sigh,
Cold winds weave through the night,
Stars alight, crisp and bright,
Warm fireside light,
Frozen plight,
Deep night,
Still.

I can feel it Cryptic I can see it and that’s all that’s needed for it to be poetic

Oh, first comment, YAY! and it deserves a swift response. If I can get this Bluetooth keyboard to work, the touch screen is wonky for some reason. Where was I, oh yes, thanks Soren. Glad to hear that the scene was painted by words. That brings a sense of accomplishment, as far as writing goes. Cheers!

      I wondered where you were...
You took me there, clear skies after snow. The wind cuts like a knife. You need a good fire!

      • arqios

Nothing like a good fire! Thanks kindly 🙏🏻

Perfect winter’s scene, picture postcard and words to match. I guess you are sitting on the beach lapping up the sun. Lovely imagery, nice brevity.

        • arqios

Oh, if only I could be there for even just a bit! Do you recall the conversation we had (over winter poems and reviewing them) a couple of years ago now perhaps? It’s nice to have somewhere warm and comfortable when the snow becomes a bit too ‘boisterous.’ Thanks Cassie. 🙏🏻

Your memory must be far better than mine.😂 and not everyone turns everything into a metaphor either 😂

            • arqios

Mum did say there was something different about me 🤣

              • Cassie58

Yes, listen to your mother. She knows best 😂

                • arqios

                  Surely can’t refute that!

Disorientatingly beautiful .. for a moment I thought I woke up in a snow globe .. Neville

That would be both cool and freaky at the same time!

A Northern Hemisphere folk myself! Thank you for this. May not be a fan of the dark days and the cold, but you’ve hit the beauty of a winter night so well. Bravo friend! 👏🌹

Aww… I do know this now that I’ve lived through half a dozen winter seasons, love the concept and the romantic (not the romcom type) notion of snow, etc… but it’s mostly dismal and grey and triggers SAD quite easily. Found it difficult to ‘be’ if I wasn’t ahead of myself on that count. Thanks for the acknowledgment and fair go on this. Much appreciated 🙏🏻

This is clever.I have never seen snow so it transported me there.Excellent

It’s like seeing the ocean for the first time if one lived all their life in a landlocked locality! Thanks DW. 🙏🏻

For me I try to extract something from a poem I've read...but find it terrible hard when the subject is winter and snow..... but hang on a minute... nonet? Down the rabbit hole... I'm on my way....
                        Thanks.

                        • arqios

You got it add! It’s a nonet, and the snow part was almost secondary, in a supporting role. But that’s the challenge and thrill of the process, you could say the snow helped the nonet out of the warren.

You sure? Well that's a relief.

Well hopefully I get to post a sunny one next, just this 24-hour posting curfew is driving me barmy!

Beautiful words arqios and so true.
