Numbers

Tristan Robert Lange

A universe of shapes,
Star bursts...
Music notes...
Galaxies swirling overhead
And in my distant soul—
A black hole—
Nothingness.
Grinding metal grating
In my ears—
Cathartic to hear—
Let the blood run.
Never fun to drain
The crimson fever
From my veins.
But the poison
Cannot, must not remain.
I can no longer afford to feign
How fucked up shit is!
O, how this world is a stain
Hellbent on hate, S8an’s gate—
It can hardly wait 4 its f8.
600 and 66 ways to chase,
To fuck, and 2 deliber8
4 zero reasons
Other than, wait for it,
H8.
The numbers etch,
Brand, rather,
Their infernal imprint
On the naive willing
2 4feit themselves
4 a 4king
P1pe
Dr3am.

    Life is like Pi

    • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed, it can feel that way! LOL! Thank you for reading and commenting, my friend! 🙏❤️

This is like a hybrid of my FFF poem and the New Testament book of Revelation - numbers in there - 666, etc, many of them symbolic.

      • orchidee

Oh, and the Book of Numbers in the Old Testament too - the numbering of the people, a sort of census, I suppose, not a mathematical workbook!

        • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed, I have checked out your FFF poem and damn that was F'n good! LOL! I do see what you mean and I am glad you saw the Biblical inspiration for my poem, though with 600 and 66, I suppose that's none too subtle! And Numbers too. LOL! 😂 Thank you so much for your time and comment and for pointing me to your poem! Loved it! ❤️🙏

For me a very enjoyable read if a little bit confusing, thank you

              • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you friend. The first part literally came out of me listening to heavy metal while having dance floor lights on (because who doesn't have those in their living room, lol) and reflecting on the state of my mental health and the health, or lack thereof, of the world around me. The numbers were just an experimental way to express my deep frustrations with everything I see happening. I hope this helps with the confusion, but I am glad that you found it enjoyable all the same. Thank you for your time, your support, and your honest feedback. ❤️🙏

I am a man who much prefers letters but appreciate numbers also have a place in this increasingly crazy world of ours .. and you have certainly made good use of a few of them well here my friend .. 10/10 .. Neville 👍

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you Neville. I was originally writing in just letters and the numbers concept hit me and I never looked back! LOL! I am with you on your preference, obviously, but yeah, it felt right here! Thank you so much for the affirmation and your wonderful feedback. Much appreciated, friend! How about I send you a digital Shandy 😉 or if you aren't into those, a libation of your choice! 🍺

                        • Neville

I love the use of numbers in this piece. 2 begin with it was gr8.

                              a very impressive write Tristan.
a use of numbers I have not seen before...
much applause once again my friend.

Thank you friend. I originally was writing it in words, but the numbers idea hit me and before I knew it was in it's final form. Love it when the muse works that way! I thank you so much for reading and for your feedback. Much appreciated Melvin. I am truly glad it resonated! ❤️🙏

                                The w8 was inconsistent with a4mentioned spect8ors’ f8. Top r8ting 4 dis.

                                • Tristan Robert Lange

LOL! You are on 2 something, my friend. Indeed, the w8 ain't a spectator's sport, much like being in the streets of Pamplona w8ing 4 the releasing of the bulls...w8 and you might not live 2 tell the story. Thank you so much for your time, engagement, and playful feedback. Always appreciated! 🙏❤️

                                    Take care, Tristan!

                                    • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed, I’ll take L8 over never, Dave. And you’re just on time really! Glad 2 have you stop by and say hi! Thank you so much my friend! 🙏❤️

Math certainly was NOT my forté, yet geometry refusing my attempts, algebra seemed a nice place to hole up until trigonometry threw in the monkey wrench. Charmingly rendered with creative imagery and a macabre poignancy, thank you for sharing.

                                        • Tristan Robert Lange

Yes, right there with you. I could always accurately set up the equation in algebra, and whether I always accurately figured it out, I had “fun” with, or the closest math would get me to fun, anyway. Believe it or not, never made it to Calc or Trig. Remedial Algebra classes for me. Honestly, it was high school and I barely survived those years, so math wasn’t really my focus. Yet, I left High School, got into college and excelled at business programming because: I am good at setting up equations. 😂 Not what I am doing with my life now, but it is funny how that worked out at the time, given my dislike for math! I eventually went to back college and ended up with a BA in Philosophy…A much better fit for me! 😂 Okay, now I am rambling! Thank you so much for your time and feedback, Missy! I always appreciate it! I al glad the poem, experimental as it was, resonated! ❤️
