Sunset and Wind Farms

Cassie58

far from finding

wind farms an eyesore

they stay a fascination as

offshore turbines salute

a fast dimming sky

from Roan beach

carbon fibre blades rotate

as moderate winds

aid graceful clockwise

turning

row on row they stand

embracing air

as though a surgeon’s knife

sliced through sky’s heart

rip roaring red no sutures

as crimson clots appear

they spread it bleeds

it plasters heaven’s highway

reflected in evening’s dark

salty waters

skyscrape slaughter

as golden sol

slips slowly beyond

horizon’s black ribbon line

while hours pass on by

building clean energy

Dear Cassie your imagery is fantastic I could almost feel that wind, we have them close to Pisa, they are enormous and they actually do a super job, a brilliant and most informative peice of poetry. Happy Friday ❤️

Such vivid imagery in this poem.
                "as though a surgeon’s knife
                sliced through sky’s heart
                rip roaring red no sutures
                as crimson clots appear "
Really very good poetic lines Cassie.

                • Cassie58

Thank you so much Soren. I do try to get the imagery across as best I can. I appreciate your thoughts very much on this poem.

                  • sorenbarrett

It's not an issue of as best you can I think Shakespear said the same.

                    • Cassie58

I think Shakespeare had an e at the end of his name when I was at school Soren. Are you joining in the fun with all the spelling mistakes on my responses today. 😂

                      • sorenbarrett

Never was a good speller and the one on site is keyed to Portugese so it is what it is

                          • Tristan Robert Lange

Great poem, Cassie. Clean energy is the way to go. Of course nothing has zero impact. These lines reminded me of that:

                            "row on row they stand
                            embracing air
                            as though a surgeon’s knife
                            sliced through sky’s heart
                            rip roaring red no sutures
                            as crimson clots appear "

Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but I think of the wildlife, particularly birds, that get "sacrificed" (if you will) for such clean energy. That said, it is not a reason to stop using wind (like some people try to argue)...as look at what oil does to the wildlife...let alone the planet. So, a far safer and CLEANER source of energy for sure. One that people have been using for the longest time actually. Anyway, all of that to say, this poem is not only beautifully rendered, it touches on such an important topic as well. 🙏🌹👏

                            • Cassie58

I do know about our avian friends being sacrificed on the blades and that of course is a sadness Tristan. Clean energy is the way to go, but not if it decimates the economy by going too fast. Sorry politics came in there. Our government has got a net zero policy that will bankrupt us 🙂 Enough of that. I am thankful for your very positive review and for enjoying this piece. I appreciate you stopping by.

                              • Tristan Robert Lange

Oh...no apologies needed...I get that. For sure and as with anything government led, it's full engines ahead without caring about the consequences...both ecological and economical. So, I hear you, my friend! Glad I was at least on the right track with the imagery, if not exactly going to politics...but, right with you! Balance is always key and there seems to be nothing but imbalance in the world anymore! Blessings upon you Cassie. I hope your day has been a good one...leading into an amazing weekend, my friend. ❤️

Yes, a bunch of weeds! lol.

                                  • Teddy.15

Shakespear lol ok now I'm really enjoying this one dear Cassie and sorrenbarret 🌹💐 take your bows

                                  • Teddy.15

Maybe just sunset and wind? Oh what a different picture and smell lol off to annoy my loved ones now ❤️

                                  • arqios

Had they made them prettier in shape (not economically appealing to the magnates I imagine) would probably imaginable mark them more attractive to the subscribing public). But when was the last time any of 5hem really cared for the little people. Oops, went off on a tangent there… a thousand pardons.

                                    • Cassie58

You are right arqios, governments don’t care about the electorate, they have their own agenda:) I like wind farms, but in moderation. I don’t want all our countryside plastered in them. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good weekend

                                      • arqios

Definitely not! That would be an eyesore and probably not exactly go for the fauna.

                                      • Doggerel Dave

From the very first sighting I loved the look of those graceful structures (Form and function and all that.)
Your poem is a fitting tribute to them, many thanks, Cassie.
Side issues: I don’t detect any spelling errors here; none in mine if my disciplinarian spell checker has any say. If you find any, at any time, please let me know directly.
Wasn’t particularly aware of those avian tragedies; how reliable are the studies?

                                        • Cassie58

Hello Dave, the birds do get caught in the blades. I have no idea of stats. This poem was more about a blood red sunset. Don’t you worry about your spellings now. Nothing wrong with yours. I had five responses recently all with typos, most unusual for the people concerned. I just noticed. I like wind farms and find the movement of the blades quite calming. However, wouldn’t want them all over our countryside. Many thanks for stopping by. Have a good weekend.

                                          • Doggerel Dave

Thanks for getting back to me, Cassie.
Not to pursue the subject, but just to mention, there are occasional encounters with those blades, but avian fatalities are minimal, I understand, compared with depredations by cats, both feral and domestic plus, in Australia other feral beasties. Also loss of habitat through large scale agriculture.
                                            Take care of yourself.

Fine words Cassie, I like watching those windmills out at sea, they are so calming.
