Not Escaping

Dan Williams

Sailing in a frail boat

across an otherwise empty sea in the emerald.

Tacking sideways endlessly, unable to stop or properly proceed,

pity crashing against rocks of resolve.

Eyeing for hope, seeing only more questions,

not discovering a thing.

Not capable of forgetting what should be forgotten,

while wind across your bow offers no respite; only torment.

Crosses you bear seem inevitable, inexorably yours;

weight undiminished in desolation or by distance.

No disguise found, not this time,

perpetually not escaping; still you seek redemption.

You flee on smooth but narrow paths

made by some tiny steamroller you operated so inexpertly.

Till now, on land, your navigation is subdued,

your skills annulled by uneventful sunrises, once glorious,

now anticlimactic sunsets.

I am sure that those new sunrises will bring new light to your life Dan.

This on its own made an awful lot of sense .. and was seriously good enough not to require an authors note .. but, it served to reinforce an already formed construct .. Nice one Dan & believe me, there's no need to knock yourself .. Neville

I can empathise with the sentiment in this poem, writing it out i think does help and you will see other time, the light coming through in your poems. All the best

The metaphors are good in this poem and convey the meaning well. Blocked and frustrated the going is difficult but should not be given up on.
