Tornado of Light

Teddy.15

He's back

he's back to remind me of that day

a day so dark

not even a tornado of light

could have persuaded my head to pull itself up

to look at its illumination

my Raven, he came to see me

to sit with me

and to let me know

he was here to comfort me

I often wonder if he will ever just stop visiting?

what would I have to do to send him away forever?

I never really speak to him

after all he's just a bird?

he's a Raven, he's my very own Raven

on days of dark like today

he comes

to acknowledge my grief in silence

but today I plucked up the courage

to ask him...

"will you visit me

on the same very dark date

every year"?

he replied...

let go of all your grief

and I'll be gone

maybe, just maybe someday I will?

I’ll miss him though

ironically, I’ll probably grieve for him too.

Now that is a splendid twist on personification. Very effective in carrying the message across.

      Thank you dear arqios, ๐ŸŒน

There is deep wisdom in this poem. Sometimes we grow so used to grief itself that we miss it. Grief does seem to be one of the main muses of poetry. Pollitt and songwriting are inspired often by minor keys, and I believe deeper emotions come from sadness than from joy. The most beautiful write Teddy

Most honoured and humbled by your words dear sorrenbarret thank you dear friend. ๐ŸŒน

Beautiful poetry Teddy. Your Raven keeping you company as you grieve. Maybe you would miss him if he didnโ€™t visit? I think grief softens with time, so maybe your Raven will always visit. Loss never completely goes. We just learn to live with it. Lovely touching words. ๐ŸŒนโค๏ธ

So right my dear Cassie, I am incredibly fond of my Raven. Thank you for your compassionate response โค๏ธ it's the same for all of us ๐Ÿ’—

"There are some dates that I could never forget even if I tried, one being the 7th of December. โค๏ธ" Friend, I am not sure of the significance of that date to you...but whatever it is...I can tell you it sparked a significant piece of art in this, my friend. I mean everything I say, sincerely. This is...just wow! This poem is beautiful...I am not joking that this poem is up there, for me, with Mr. Poe's ancient bird of Nevermore! I mean that. Obviously the poem is different structurally...but in terms of impact. Wow! Let me ask you, dearest Teddy, is your Raven collection published and able to be purchased...because I would immediately! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ I'm a fan!

                    • Teddy.15

Such kind words dear Tristan, the significance was that my 25 year old brother was buried that day in 1998 and I was 24 it was my first shock of death and it was truly brutal. My mother eventually died of a broken heart in 2012 she never did recover her loss. I\'m truly humbled by your kind words, my raven collection is here you can read them all for free I usually headline them as being from my Raven collection which was in fact inspired by The Raven Edgar Allen Poe an extraordinary poem. Ive never been published in a book but please help yourself on my list anytime you feel like it. Thank you! โค๏ธ ๐Ÿค—

Oh. Wow! Well, from what I have read of your Raven Collection...I really love them. I was actually going to comment, so I might as well here, that this piece is a perfect follow up to the Raven itself. I was thinking that as I read it. And, I can tell you, Teddy, I will be checking them out. Poe is a kindred spirit of mine when it comes to literary influences. Him, Charles Baudelaire (who also admired Poe), and...wait for it...Jim Morrison...who admired both Baudelaire and Poe. LOL! Needless to say, like you my dear friend, I have Poe very much in my blood. So, please do know, I mean every word I have said. This poem is VERY MUCH publish worthy. In fact, your work in general is very publish worthy! I have attempted to get published traditionally, but I have yet to. So, I have never been published either, unless you count my high school โค๏ธ magazine! ๐Ÿคฃ Anyway, I am rambling at this point. So, let me just say thank you! ๐Ÿ™

                        • Teddy.15

Thank you so much dear Tristan for your encouraging words on my work, I've been offered many publishing contracts but with a price that I myself would have to pay so basically I could do it myself it's called self publishing, I'm always overwhelmed to know that other writers and poets enjoy my work so unless I too am offered a traditional contract my work can be found here for free. โค๏ธ Thank you so much, yours is most certainly publish worthy too. ๐ŸŒน

                          • Tristan Robert Lange

Exactly! Yes, I have been offered those too and, as you basically said, no thank you! And besides, this site provides more than just our work getting read, and even more than money, it provides community, and that for me is priceless. Even if I did get published, Iโ€™d still be on here sharing! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, all of that to say, I truly admire your work Teddy! Hope you have a great day, friend!

We all have those dates Teddy, yesterday was my wife's birthday and on the 30th of this month was the day she passed into heaven.

๐Ÿ’œ thank you for sharing dearest Andy, you have shared this before and if it's any consolation the 8th of December is a celebration of christmas here in Italy. ๐ŸŒน

yes, you are right - some dates are so dark and sad, they keep haunting you time and again
hoping you get over them, and find solace

                              • Teddy.15

So very kind dear NafisaSB, we all have these dates someway or another, I have much solace I just love to write about it. Thank you ๐ŸŒน

yes, getting it off your chest is one way to lighten the burden
wishing you peace of mind, and brighter days in 2025
