Peace on earth, good will

sorenbarrett

Grown stronger than man's bones
A seed reincarnated, sprouts from the earth
Reaching ethereal sunlit zones
Taking nutrients from place of birth

With no window, roof or wall
No wars, abuse or genocide
Giving homes, shelter, shade to all
Jealousy, lust, hatred, set-aside

Growing canopy, of harmony
No voice or tongue to deride
Image of what man only dreams to be
In roots, trunk and leaves reside

Peace on earth, good will to all
Cut by man's saw of wisdom, another does fall

Some versions amend it to something like 'Peace on earth; good will to men with whom God is pleased'. But He isn't pleased with those who go on sinning.
Yes, we should respect trees, etc. Many have been around longer than us, unless you're 100 million years old, like Goldfinch and I are! lol.

Told you Orchi I knew the first tree when he was just a sapling. Thanks for the read and comment it is deeply valued.

Wonderful poem that cuts the BS and gets straight to the truth. It's good will to "men"...but how can there be good will for humans if we fail to show good will to the earth? Provocative and true write! Well done, friend. 🌹👏

it is a funny old world isn't it .. sad too much of the time .. I doubt that many of those who talk the talk really know what they are talking about or how their actions & inactions impact on others and indeed upon the world in general both directly & indirectly .. and I really do have a thing about trees 😎👍

                • sorenbarrett

I literally had goosebumps. It effortlessly painted a picture of hope. Perhaps, that's the need of the day. Yes we are killing nature, but I have hope in her resilience

Like trees planted, extensions of who we are, what a reflection in the mirror that faces us.... straight in the eye. Sometimes I know we are all of us to blame.

Tree as a symbol, a personification perhaps, of all that many see as a vision and hope for, seems pretty valid Soren. The irony in the last line is not lost on me.
                          Thanks.
