Epiphany Expressions

orchidee

Tune: Stuttgart

('Earth has many a noble city')

Matthew 2 v,8-11

***********

From the East came wise men*, Magi

Unto Bethlehem drew nigh

Followed the star till their journey

Ended where the Christ-child be

Seeing the start they did greatly

Rejoice, e'en exceedingly

To worship the Saviour they came

Jesus, God's Son, be His name

The Epiphany, the showing

Of the Christ, the revealing**

To them, with Mary mother too

There they precious sight did view

Opening their treasures they made

Homage, gifts, to Him displayed

Gold and frankincense and myrrh fine

To the King human, divine

-------

* The text does not say they were Kings, but they may have been. Nor how many there were.

** The revealing to the Gentiles, i.e. non-Jews.
