Tune: Dix
('As with gladness men of old')
Matthew 2 v.1-6 parts
************
Jesus in Bethlehem born
Bringing us salvation's morn
Then came from the East wise men
Unto Jerusalem then
Saying, Where is He that be
Born King of the Jews to see?
For we have in the east seen
His star, there it former been
We are come to Him worship
Honour Him in word and lip
People did to them reply
He is not too far, but nigh
For the prophets words they
In Bethl'em of Judah, see
You be not least among towns
But you be of high renowns
For from you a Governor
Shall come and shall be Ruler*
Shall rule His people Israel
And too message Gentiles tell
He shall shepherd them and lead
Them to good pasture, them feed
Thus revealed, Epiphany
The Christ-child for all to see
------
* 'Ruler' here is sometimes translated as 'Shepherd',
so this leads on to the next verse.

Good write Orchi and timely too
Thanks Gold. The author, William Chatterton Dix (and tune name) wrote it near Epiphany in 1859. While he was unwell he turned to writing the hymn.
Wonderful Orchi! Happy Epiphany Sunday...and soon to be actual Epiphany! Now...if the earth would orbit just a wee closer to the star...we could be out of the blasted winter! 🥶 Daftness aside, really enjoyed the hymn-poem, my friend! 🙏❤️
Thanks T. Ohh, Happy Easter to ya. I dunno what day, what year, what century it is sometimes! lol. 😁 But we have only just started winter. Boo hoo! lol.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold. Did we meet Prudentius in person, the author of 'Earth has many a noble city', you and I, in the 4th century AD? What did he say about my singing? lol.
A timely tribute to Christ the King.Well done
Thanks D.

Thanks T. I shall have to include 'y'all' somewhere in my poems - I could do, it's only takes up one syllable! lol.
