Tune: Sandys
('Teach me, my God and King')
Psalm 47 v.1-7
***********
Clap hands, all you people
Shout unto God, extol
Him, for He is the Lord most high
We may to Him draw nigh
He is a great King o'er
All the earth, it be sure
He shall subdue our enemies
He from oppression frees
And our inheritance
He shall choose, His presence
Shall be e'er with us, He encoves
His people who He loves
God is gone up with shout
Let praises now ring out
And trumpets too His praise proclaim
Acknowledge His great name
He King o'er all the earth
Praise Him, give Him His worth
Sing praises with understanding
And Him your worship bring

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.8.6. There are different styles of worship. Here it is of a 'charismatic' or 'Pentecostal' type - clapping, shouting, trumpets, etc. Not as in one convent/church I read 'Please don't sneeze loudly in church, as it distracts the worship' Doh! You can't stifle a sneeze sometimes. The hymn in the video is from the 17th Century and has a sort of alchemy theme in it.

Differing types indeed! Have you been to a reformed worship service? Their hymnal, if it could be called that is all of three pages thick. Attended a Dutch one once, it was not an eye-opener. Alchemy theme, now that is one to sniffle at with allergies and all! Good stuff here O! 🙏🏻🕊️👍
Thanks A. I know a place where they hardly know what a hymn book is - it's a special event if they get them out. It's usually endless choruses, sung about 100 times each - or feels like it! lol. Wouldn't be so bad if they were good quality ones. But I refuse to sing 'Hooray! 100 times lol.
Agreed! Hooray 🙏🏻🕊👍🏻
More protestant than chatholic this hymn is a reminder to give credit for in its remembering we remain humble and set our sites on becoming something better than we are. A wonderful hymn Orchi
Thanks SB.
Some churches evidently curse you for sneezing, others bless you. Then we wonder why the church has retention issues anymore! 🤷♂️ Sneezing aside, this is a wonderful hymn-poem, Orchi. Love your journeying through the Psalms as of late. 🌹👏
Thanks T.
