Three burly sheriffs showed
up at my neighbors
house yesterday.
Scowls on scarred faces.
Tattered lives, tarnished
brains.
Five minutes later,
they were walking my
friend out in handcuffs.
He shuffled, head down.
Autumn frowned and the
leaves scuttled away in
disgust.
Today, the vultures swooped
in, picked the bones of all
his earthly possessions that
littered what was once his
front lawn.
Jackals, and hideous
hyena faced men and
women took the last of
his things.
Even though he was
arrested, he still
grows.
and although they are
free, they die more
daily in their own
private evictions.
I've seen more
humanity at a
hanging.

A example of how life and people have changed, it seems at every opportunity these days there are people waiting to clean you out. Powerfully worded, well written.
Thank you.
You are very welcome
I remember reading someone saying that the gods people worship these days are power, money and sex. No wonder this world becomes more brutal each day.
Great work, Thomas.
So true. Thanks.
So well written Thomas your poems have grown in a growth spurt. I found this one particularly lovely. Very human it speaks of inhumanity and ends with a very powerful line.
Thanks, much appreciated.
Wonderfully human as are you dear Thomas, your poetry is always an absolutely humbling experience for me. 🌹
Thank you, sweet Teddy.
They still keep their dignity and humanity, while those who prey upon hem lost it themselves. A very good poem of injustice.
Thanks
You're welcome
Beautifully rendered with a subtly gnawing poignancy and awesome imagery, la! This takes me off to leave me like the fly on the wall, gaping. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much.
Tough read Thomas. I just wanted to cry for the hard times your neighbor has found himself in. A clean out by the bailiffs and a handcuffing, just heart breaking. You tell it so well.
Thank you, Cassie. Much appreciated.
