Empathy fosters compassion
Compassion fosters community
Community is what has allowed us
To survive and thrive over thousands of years
And yet it is these virtues
Which are under attack in today’s world
If we lose sight of them
We lose ourselves
However, there is hope
While an ember of humaneness still lingers
Let us fan it until it once again burns brightly
And our sense of community is strong
It is our collective duty
If we are willing to accept it
The “Good Fight is never easy”
But it is more than well worth it

- Comment from author about the poem: I have been reading the "1619 Project" about the brutal history of my country, and the struggles of those who overcame what seemed insurmountable obstacles to obtain freedom and equality. When I see that determination, I know that nothing is impossible.

In our selfish and individualistic society even technology conspires against community and relationships. The pending outcome of this is uncertain but precarious and this poem speaks to the need for unity rather than division. A peritient and poignant write Bella
Thank you dear friend, your comments are always insightful and so greatly appreciated. We've a lot to overcome.
Beautiful work.
Thank you for reading and for your kind comment, it is greatly appreciated.
When I was a child we had the neighbourhood watch in the UK now I live in Italy and it's upgraded to the grannies force of the FBI 🤣 what a marvelous poem written with compassion and the empathy it speaks of, the community spirit is broken all over the world, may this beautiful poem reach the hearts of all of us. Fortunately I adore my neighbours and we all look out for eachother but we are a small village. ❤️
I love the grannies force, they are formidable. Thank you for this beautiful comment dear Teddy, your small village is a piece of the whole, and if we can put the pieces scattered all over the world together, what a picture it will be. It may also be very unrealistic, but if we achieve even a fraction of it, I\'d call that progress. Take care my good friend, I'm so very glad that you are there! Thank you for the fav as well.
sadly we now live in communities within communities and the reluctance of many communities not willing to engage on a positive note with other communities, it creates unneeded tension and division, as they say when i was a lad, everyone looked out for everyone not it is for them self. Loved the read raising a serious issue that effects all people in all countries around the world.
Dear friend you speak to the heart of it. Thank you so much for your insightful words, they mean so much to me. Take good care!
You are very welcome
An excellent poem Bella .. I would say a keeper, but tis more than just that, it's one for the world to consider and reflect upon .. Neville
Dear Nev, you have no idea how much your words of encouragement are always appreciated. Thank you for being there my friend, you are stability and constancy in this insanity.
Yes Bella, nothing is impossible but we need to get those who can change the world for the better to see that in a peaceful way.
Andy
So true Andy, who or what is out there just waiting for us to discover, and someday we will. Thank you!
Good write Bella.
Ahh, it reminds me of one of KP and my wedding hymns: 'Fight the good fight'. We been like cat and dog ever since! lol. (Do cats and dogs fight?)
Dear Orchi, when the fight goes out of you, then I'll be worried, lol. Take care, and keep those boxing gloves on.
I read this as something of a rally-cry. Very well done. A fine write.
Don't you just wish you could shout from the mountain tops and someone would listen. Let's stick together my friend, if we keep adding voices, who knows what could be. Thank you, always appreciated!
