Commitment Call

Tune: Epiphany

('Brightest and best of the sons of the morning')

Mark 1 v.14-18

*********

Light of the world, you did call your disciples

They left all, followed you, obeyed your calls

Forth they did go, shared the news of salvation

Gospel message spread to every nation

Fishermen you called to be fishers of men

Appointed of your choosing of them then

Twelve chosen and by your spirit directing

Giving them wisdom and grace in each thing

So send forth us, your church, people of today

That we evangelise and watch and pray

Preaching and teaching as your proclamation

Repent, each person, your message, God's Son

For the time is fulfilled, kingdom of God be

At hand, now is the time to repent, see

And believe in the gospel open to all

Let us too follow, respond to His call

(The last verse of the hymn is traditionally repeated at the end, and so here also)

Light of the world, you did call your disciples

They left all, followed you, obeyed your calls

Forth they did go, shared the news of salvation

Gospel message spread to every nation

Familiar with the original hymn/tune. This is most impressive, Orchi! Love it! 😍

Thank you Tristan. Sometimes longer lines can give a bit more expression. Then again, shorter lines may concentrate things more. Plus some hymns have Choruses, or Refrain - not meaning refraining from singing it, of course! lol.

Of course, except that crow in that back that keeps hitting all the wrong notes! LOL! Other than that, don't refrain! LOL! You're welcome, my friend! A great hymn-poem.

Another epiphany piece… you know what they say: three times lucky 🍀 or twice blessed!

                  • orchidee

Thank you A. There may be more on this theme, as Epiphany season is longer this year. It all depends on the date of Easter, working backwards and forwards from that date, which is different each year. Gotta wait longer for our pancakes this year, though I was born eating them, as I was born on a Pancake Day / Shrove Tuesday. lol.
