Tune: Engelberg
('All praise to thee, for thou, O King divine')
Lukw 2 v.25-32
For Candlemas Day: Feb 2.
****************
Dedication festival here unfolds
Jesus brough to Temple, forty days old
There in Jerusalem was Simeon
Elderly, godly one
He was just and devout, and waiting for
Israel's comforting to come about sure
The Spirit upon him did there reveal
Christ-child he would see still
By the Spirit Simeon to Temple
Came, and did see holy family all
Took Christ up in his arm, and did God bless
These were his words no less
Lord, now let your servant depart in peace
Now that my earthly life it soon shall cease
According to your word, for my eyes they
Salvation see this day
'Tis in your Son, the Christ-child who I hold
You have prepared Him before all, it told
A light to lighten the Gentiles, and be
Of Jews He the glory
