The Window Between

Tristan Robert Lange

Standing there, peering in the door window,
The doggy looks inside with eager eyes
At her loved ones inside their bungalow;
Not one li’l look back from them will arise.

The doggy looks inside with eager eyes
Wondering why she isn’t allowed in—
No look back from them will ever arise—
As the frigid frost is biting her skin—

Wondering why she isn’t allowed in
Where the warmth of their love could be supplied—
The frigid frost is eating at her skin—
Into the home where her parents abide.

The doggy is alone, just staring there
At her loved ones inside their bungalow—
In their callousness, they ignore her stare—
Ever there, gazing in the door window.

That’s sad .. animals should never be neglected or discarded like their nothing .

    Good writing ..

Makes me feel sorry for the dog .. probably feels sad and unloved

Indeed. She's a beautiful girl and it breaks my heart to see it. Every time I visit my parents, I go outside, reach over the fence and pet her after giving her some treats. She's always happy for that! 🤣 But I cannot understand why people would take in a dog just to do that to them. Heartbreaking! Thank you for your feedback, my friend. Much appreciated! ❤️🙏

Exclusion like banishment more sever than a death sentece has been used from time immemorial as the harshist of punishments. Even now in prisons solitary confinement, being put in the hole is reserved for the greatest of offenses. We and dogs are social animals and need contact with our own. A heart wrenching read.

Indeed, we do. I will never understand human indifference and cruelty. Thank you, Soren. I am glad the poem delivered, my friend! ❤️🙏

It should never to animals but equally i think this is about people as well, and how we all to easily banish and cast aside. Poignant and i feel touching read that makes a needed point. Enjoyed the poetry.

Indeed, while the subject of the poem is a dog, the truth is that this happens to people too. I will never understand human indifference and cruelty. I am glad the point got across and that you see in it a relatable poem beyond its immediate subject. Thanks again, my friend!

            You are very welcome

From one angle in the picture it looks like the window is open! But a terrible situation in reality.

It is. Not sure why such a sweet girl would be left out and ignored by her family like that. Terrible and sad to see.

Do they leave her outdoors now, do you mean?

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Yes. She and her family are neighbors to my parents. I have been observing tbis for years. This trip was the first time I became aware that the fence isn’t actually electric! 😳 So, I reached over, petted her anytime I was out there, got her treats! LOL! She’s missing me, no doubt! But my parents do the same too.

This brought tears to my eyes. Maybe I am sensitive but it breaks my heart to se a dog oor any animal hurt or be abused. What is sad it there are people out there that actually do this. I'm a firm believer, you get an animal, they become family no matter what. Some people don;t deserve pets. Again, great write. Hope your day is going good.

Agreed, my friend. Some people really do not deserve their pets. Hands down. Thank you so much for reading and for sharing your heart and thoughts on the matter as well. Much appreciated! 🙏❤️

Are they stone statues?! Has Jaedis, the fabled White Witch of Narnia, visited ere the darling got to the window, leaving but echoes of what was, and nary breath of life?! The use of a refrain hammers home the deadly reality delineated while the answer hangs unresolved. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a haunting poignancy, thank you very much for sharing.

Thank you, my friend, for reading and commenting. Indeed, the poem never answers why. Of course, I was observing this doggy in someone's yard while visiting family and I am pretty sure I saw no signs of Jaedis. 🤣 I wish that was the real reason for their cold indifference. Then again, metaphorically speaking, maybe she did visit them and froze their hearts. Either way, thank you so much for your time, your wonderful interpretation and encouraging comment. I truly appreciate you! ❤️🙏
