Fishbowl Fatigue

Tristan Robert Lange

Why is it that, since my birth,
Humans have been cruel, hurtful,
And callous as fuck toward me,
To the point I hate being around anyone?

Times and even places have changed;
However, people never, ever really do.
Everyone is stuck in their own fishbowl.

Forget about flowery mouths;
Ugliness is a thick and potent perfume.
Cowards always choose to hit and run
Kilometers before they turn to face you.

Sometimes people don’t care enough about how much they might be upsetting another person ..

💯Truth. Thank you, friend, for your time and support. 🙏❤️

People are people, in that same way. In the same breath, what you put out is what you receive. Take people at face value and turn to go on your way. Harbor no ill will and you will find. You your life is better. To this take heed, when looking at life. If all you see is negativity, that is what you find. Change your perspective and change your life.

        • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you for your thoughts, my friend. I always appreciate it.

As for me, I see things in a more nuanced way than you seem to. Yes, indeed, we can manifest things by being overly negative. No doubt. It is true. Conversely, we can be overly optimistic and still end up dead or a hostage after attending a fall concert; you can still end up an innocent person bombed because of another government’s genocidal tendencies. And that’s just one example on both sides.

Harboring no ill will does not mean people don’t harbor ill will toward you. Not saying that one should harbor ill will; I am just saying that not doing so gives one ZERO guarantees.

Then we get into a thing called mental illness. Is it so simple as “changing one’s perspective?” Psychology/science shows otherwise. For me, acknowledging these truths and avoiding over-simplistic B&W outlooks help to break the stigma that mental health, grief, and other things bear. In fact, the stigma and the dread it causes are created by those who are "stuck in their own fishbowls", as my poem addresses.

Thanks again for your time and for commenting. ❤️🙏

Tristian, my darkest struggles with mental health led me to the revalations I shared. Regardless of naivety or blanket statements. What works for me or you is just one view. I appreciate your writing, it is thought provoking.

            • Tristan Robert Lange

You are welcome, my friend. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and where you are coming from. I am glad those have proven to be revelations for you. Indeed, what is one’s revelation may not be anothers. At least this poem out there for going through similar things regardless of their particulars. It’s good to know one is not alone and that is, in part, why I write.

It is a hardwired fact that humans are cruel as well as kind. Cowardly as well as brave and like flies bullies are attracted to cowards and flee from the brave. A wonderful write

              • Tristan Robert Lange

For sure. No doubt about any of that. Than you so much, my friend. ❤️🙏

Welcome, sadly, to facts and the uglier face of aka reality. Were I to quip, "I hate to break it to ya, but--" it'd be unforgivable. While this pretty, sordid little number can't help but resonate with most of humanity, yet alas, how shall I say it? "...God is love--" and man seems to illustrate the exact opposite. Beautifully rendered with superb imagery and a painfully haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing. Hang in there, please?

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Yes. Humanity and God rarely seem to be on the same page. We're flawed, and so flawed love, if love at all, is what we get from anyone other than God. 💯 Thank you so much for reading and commenting, my friend! 🙏❤️

Your poem hits hard Tristan. I felt much pain and frustration in your words. To feel as though you want no one around you, must be pretty dreadful. I hope this isn’t about you my friend. Speaks to me of mental health problems, but without doubt there are are uncaring people out there, but also many who have hearts of gold. You just have to find them. All the best dear poet.

                  • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed. Your words ring true, my dear poet and friend. It isn't about me now, but there have been times that I have been there. Indeed, you are spot on about the mental health issues, at least regarding myself (MDD and GAD, plus I suffered a TBI when I was a teen, which did not help my cause) and where I was coming from with this poem. Indeed, there are many great people out there with hearts of gold, and thankfully, I have a number of them in my life that keeps this poem from becoming my ultimate reality. Truthfully, I consider you and all of my friends on here to be numbered among those people. I really do thank you, Cassie, for your thoughtful read, empathy, and support. You are a blessing, and I feel blessed. 😇🙏😊

If I were you Tristan, I wouldn’t take it personally .. I reckon you just hit both on a fact of life and a sad sign of our times .. You just happened to articulate the fact so eloquently and wrap it in a poem mate .. Neville

Why, thank you, Neville! Much appreciated, my friend.

I am totally with you on this one and it is not as simple as think positive and good things come your way, life just is not like that. Most bullies are cowards as they only pick on the weakest, and i learn`t over the years it is not a personal thing, they are attracted to those they perceive to be week or are jealous of, but inside probably have more fears and insecurities than the person they are bullying. It is not the victim who is weak it is the bully and sadly there have always been and will always be bullies in the world and that bullying will come in many guises. If you have been on the end of bullying it is not a simple issue to resolve and can have devasting effects. Powerful, poignant and sad write, but points well made

Indeed. 💯 Tobani! Thank you so much for your understanding and encouragement. Both are very much valued and appreciated! 🙏❤️

Tristan, you've asked a great question.
And don't forget all the people who've helped you along the way!

                          • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed. Never will. Thank you, my friend. Your time and thoughts are most appreciated! ❤️🙏
