the branches die in the wintertime, to grow stronger next year they say
the body wrinkles and shrivels up, getting older, smaller, and weaker
the shoes wear out the soles, breaking down, collecting holes
the rope caves from the strain, and strip by strip it unravels
not all change is good, but change was good for me.

A poem that begins with despair shows hope then returns to darkness only to end on what was really important and bright. A most lovely write.
Yes thank you!
Yes. We can change for good or worse. Sometimes, often times perhaps, we make/accept those changes thinking one thing will come only to discover another. What we thought good...bad. What we thought bad...good. Then again, what makes them bad or good, but the effect we perceive they have on us. Those effects, of course, very real but what affects one positively might not be positive to someone else. Fascinating poem with thought-provoking teeth, my friend. An easy fave from me. Powerful stuff. 🌹👏
Very true, good and bad are subjective, but there is still a societal standard. It's very interesting. Thank you for reading and commenting!
Oh yes. Society very much tells us how to place value on our experiences...and that is an added reality to it all, further complicating our own perceptions. In fact, our perceptions are informed by society's. Deep stuff! You are welcome!
I heard a story about an old Taoist practitioner who, when he died, it took three days for rigor mortis to set in. Then of course, there's that story about a guy who died, "slept" in a cave for three days and came back out again... in the same body! What does it all mean?!
Excellent write
Thanks!
You're welcome
A lovely poem which conveys some dark imagery. Yes change isn’t always for the good, but we have to live in hope. We have to keep that light at the end of the tunnel. Enjoyed reading you Ninjagirl.
Thank you!
