My Mama`s Gone.

Poetic Licence

My MAMA`s GONE

Mama said pack up your toys, it's time to go to bed

I’m tired it has been another long day for both of us

She held me in her arms and walked us up the stairs

Put me gently in bed, I cuddled my teddy called Gus.

She read me a bedtime story snuggled up by my side

It's always helped me sleep a little bit better at night

When she had finished, she kissed me on the forehead

She wished me sweet dreams and turned out the light.

I heard my Mama walking back down the creaky stairs

And I hoped my Mama would also have a quiet night

About me or my Mama I knew my father did not care

Then the peace was shattered, sound of another fight.

In the morning, I walked back down the creaky stairs

My father was sitting at the kitchen table on his own

He looked angry, I asked why my Mama was not there

He said Mama had decided to leave the family home.

I said to my father, you were fighting again last night

He said shut up you little Bastard get out of my sight

I said maybe if you did not batter her black and blue

She might want to still be living here with me and you.

Abuse an ugly monster that consumes both victim and perpetrator as well as many around it. A sad poem with a message that unfortunately those that need to hear it most will probably not hear. Well done

Such a sad story Tobani, it happens so frequently, I have a friend who was abused for many years, she got rid of him eventually and I spent much time listening to her problems and helping all I could. She now has a new wonderful partner and they are wonderful together.
