4th of July

Tony36

The rockets go up

Explode in the sky
Pretty sparks dance in the sky
Kids laughing at a BBQ
Watermelon on the 4th of July

I"m free because of the fallen
Yes
I'm free because of the fallen

They fought when their country called
They fought to defend us all
Giving their lives when needed
Or coming home broken and bleeding

"I'Mmfree because of the fallen
Yes
I'm free because of the fallen

The rockets go up
Explode in the sky
Pretty sparks dance in the sky
Kids laughing at a BBQ
Watermelon on the 4th of July

Tony this is one of my most favorite of your poems. It is a soft spot. My father fought, uncles fought, a cousin fought, my grand father and great grand fathers fought. They all had stories and their lives were stories in and of themselves. A moving poem that is emphasized in the image of fireworks a great metaphor.

Like you I to come from a vast military family. Glad you liked it, and thank you

Very lovely and evocative, beautifully rendered in your characteristic style, so charmingly with excellent imagery and a waltzing poignancy. Thank you very much for sharing.
