i'm like my dad
thats what everyone says
and i could never be a parent
if i ever had a kid
because i could not bare if
my child
looked at me
that way i did my father

Strong feelings expressed here. Nicely done
Valid reason, that’s quite a situation there. And when I did become a parent it all changed in a moment.
Oh, funny you say so, cuz Dad refused to join Mum and my two oldest brothers at the dining room table that day the three decided to inform my father and I that we were too much alike, akin to two peas in a pod. The most interesting fact after that was how he used to seemingly unconsciously choose the things I reserved for myself. I never considered how a kid of my own would look at me, finding it sufficiently fascinating in high school when grade schoolers looked up to me with the respect adults knew, me feeling forever too much like a kid. But enough.
This pretty number is delightfully expressive, rendering effectively in brevity a haunting reality, none too subtly poignant. Thank you for sharing.
It's funny how some memories you can't let go of no matter how hard you try.
