brick after brick was laid

until meters of wall stood

and perhaps was impenetrable

but they realized also inescapable

the cost of being safe trapped themselves

and so she watched as the enemies rained in

attacking the perimeter of what she called safe

but those who attacked and those who gave were indistinguishable
