Tune: Crucifer
('Lift high the cross')
Matthew 26 v.30-25
********
Chorus
Jesus' words to Peter, Ere cockerel crow
Twice, you thrice shall deny that me you know
Jesus and disciples after supper
Went to mount of Olives, did there then confer - Chorus
He said, You all shall be offended, for
'Tis written, I will smite the shepherd sure - Chorus
And the sheep of the flock shall be scattered
Shall be so this night, of this be assured - Chorus
But after I am risen again, I
Will go unto Galilee, it no lie - Chorus
Peter said, Though all others forsake you
I shall not be offended but stay true - Chorus
Peter, and all disciples, to Him said
E'en if to death, still your way we shall tread - Chorus
But Jesus knew they would soon Him deny
Sign for Peter, cockerel would crow by and by - Chorus

A beautiful hymn appropriate for the season. Nicely done Orchi
Thank you SB. Funny title for a hymn-poem?! lol. e.g. And now hymn No.263 - \'Cockerel Crowing\'.
That statue of Peter’s denial was intense and that giant cistern cavern was so eerie, both in the high priest’s home. 🕊️🙏🏻
Thank you A. That a cockerel in your comment? Nope - a dove! Behave, says Fido to me.
Those dang cock(erel)s. They ruin it for the conscience every time, I tell you. (Forgive me Fido, I could not help 🤣). All daftness aside, Orchi, a most wonderful hymn poem that reminds us of the profound loneliness and isolation our Lord was subjected to during his time of suffering...and all of that done willingly. Causes one to pause, to reflect, to wonder: what would I have done? A question that can be asked regardless of whose shoes one puts oneself in. A great hymn-poem, my friend. A fave from me. 🌹👏
Thank you T.
You are welcome, Orchi!!
