Pilate's Perturbations

Tune: Herongate

'(It is a thing most wonderful')

Matthew 27 v.15-25 parts

*********

At Passover feast Barabbas

Prisoner released, but Jesus

Before Pilate, who asked people

What shall I do? Answer me all

What to do with Jesus? They cried

Let Him now here be crucified

Though Pilate's wife told him of dream

And said, No judgement on Him deem

Pilate asked them, What evil deed

Has he done, that I you should heed?

But they did only cry the more

Wanting Him crucified for sure

Pilate saw the tumult, and he

Washed his hands before them, said, See

I innocent of the blood shed

Of this just man who you wish dead

They answered, His blood be upon

Us, and our children, daughters, sons

Upon them in judgement, or may

Be on them in salvation's day*

------

* 'His blood be upon us' can be double-edged - in judgement, or in salvation and forgiveness.

A very dramatic part of the Bible and leading into the central issue of crucifixion resurrection the key part of Easter coming. Nicely done Orchi

A very apt write for this time of year, but the message still carrys in the modern world, how we judge people and wish ill on them because of false facts and lack of knowledge, enjoyed the read

Wonderful rendering of Scripture, my friend—and I especially appreciate the guiding note that encourages a more responsible interpretation. Jesus himself prayed for forgiveness, after all. And theologically speaking, we’ve all, in some way, put Him on that cross—and He has borne our sins, too. This is a powerful Holy Week hymn-poem. Well done. 🌹👏✝️

You are welcome, Orchi! Really loved this! Just reread it again. All seriousness aside, though, I do have this quick question. Is it Pilate who created Pilates? 🤷‍♂️ Just wondering. 🤣
