When My Time is Up

Accidental Poet

I’ve no plans

On checking out early

There’s much I still want to do

And my grave’s not yet ready for me

I’ve lived a long life

With my share of regrets

Can’t hide from them

Mistakes I can’t forget

All in all

I can’t complain

Won’t blame the rainbows

For the thirst-quenching rain

Maybe I didn’t

Achieve all my goals

But I knew love in my heart

And it left a smile in my soul

I’m not afraid of dying

Just hope I’ll be remembered

As being better than nothing

A smile that burns a forever ember

And no use

In trying’ to avoid it

I can’t roll back time

I know I can’t restore it

So, when it’s my time to go

You won’t see me kicking and screaming

I’ll be looking’ for those that past before me

Like the Sun I’ll be beaming

Don’t want no one crying over me

May the last thing I see is your smiling face

As I go on down the line

Crossing over to that Heavenly place

  • Comment from author about the poem: After listening to this song, I came away with this poem. And the melody carried me through in writing it. So, if you listen to the song first, my poem might also seem to fit in. Hope you like it as much as I did writing it.
