Am I Here?
when I write, am I present
is there enough of me on the page.
have I actually tried today, done what I tell people
and bled onto the paper, enough to laugh
enough to cry
enough to rage at the words I've written
Am I Here?
or elsewhere, wishing to be done? away
from the page, the pen, the responsibility
telling myself I did a good job, clocking out early
Am I Here?
in this moment, lost within
so that I can avoid making eggshell poems
and stain glass prose
and instead
write icebergs

Superb. Methinks the secret is either unexposed or else still esoteric. I guess I learned it in the process of writing. Let me know if you want me to tell you. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a delightful poignancy. Thank you for sharing. I love it!
Thank you for reading Missy. Please feel free to share the secret
Regardless the topic: frame your poem in the present tense. Does that help?
Teddy you have outdone yourself in this write. Yes you are here in this poem. Some brilliant work in this. No single line stands out but as a whole this poem reeks with power and with the essence of poetry. It stands like a rock in the waves of a storm. No sugar and spice and everything nice but the icing is taken off to reveal an iceberg. One of your best. A definite fave
Very kind and incredibly encouraging words Soren, thank you and thank you for reading.
