rare gentleness

catsdrinkboba

This was never supposed to be written

But you got stuck in my head

Even when you weren’t supposed to

Because you’re already taken

Yet you drew that smiley on my test

What was it even for?

My marks aren’t the best

You are the real gentleman when no one else is

The one who lets girls enter the classroom first,

While all the other boys just barge in

The one who smiles shyly,

Makes me read the next paragraph during a lesson

The one who kept assuring my dance steps were very good,

Even when they were all messed up

The one who defended me,

When someone commented on my illness

Back then when I had a crush on H,

I was so blinded by my “love” for him that I didn’t see the best

The one always by his side

His best friend

H is arrogant

You are gentle

and respectful

and kind

and reassuring

and so much

so much that he isn’t

That H never will be.

But you have someone.

So this poem shall end here.

Together with my feelings.

Timing is everything and we all have problems with this. A love poem that is full of wistfulness. A lovely heartfelt write

We sure hope so, cuz it's downright awful wanting him when he doesn't even notice us except to be like a big brother, when what we dearly wanted was a lover. Superbly rendered with gorgeous imagery and a damning poignancy. Thank you for sharing. Hang in there.
