๐ ๐๐ป often and again, away ๐๐ป๐๏ธ
Velveteen Rabbit:
left forgotten on the floor,
overlooked, shy, sawdust-made,
snubbed by the grand and mechanical,
a world of prideful toys,
and absent understanding.
Timothy, the wooden lion,
boasts of his noble ties,
the painted boat speaks
in the language of rigging.
Yet Rabbit finds no place,
nor kinship in hollow superiority.
Only Skin Horse, aged,
fur rubbed bare and stories deep,
holds wisdom born of wear,
eyes soft but steady
with truths of nursery magic
that runs through the hands of love.
"Real," whispers the sage, "
Is not in buzz nor brass,
but in the wear of time,
the touch of belonging.
Love, long and true,
binds sawdust tighter than springs."
Rabbit listens,
the question of hurt unfolds,
fragility met with truth.
"You become," says the elder,
slowly, deeply, undeniably,
until your shabbiness glows
as something others misunderstand.
A smile seals the tale,
a dream born in trust,
one day, perhaps,
Rabbit will be Real.

Thanks for the Fave @Poetic Licence ๐๐๐ป
Nostalgia meets the present and births lost feelings of a past filled with memories of a time of faith, belief, love and all those things we wished were true. A most touching and lovely write and a fave
Thanks Soren. Sorry for the cat; hadnโt a rabbit ๐ image to put up. At least not yet. ๐๐๐ป
No need seldom put up images for me the images are in the poem
Cheers Soren๐๐ป๐๏ธ
Beautiful retelling! Your words capture the heart of the classic tale, conveying the tender themes of love and what it means to be "real."
Thanks Salvia, that was the aim of this exercise. You are much appreciated ๐๐๐ป๐
Ah, my friendโฆwhat youโve done here is more than revisit a childhood taleโyouโve rekindled its soul. This reads like a conversation between Skin Horse and the reader, and I feel deeply honored that our exchange played even a small part in this poemโs becoming. Lines like โshabbiness glowsโ and โthe touch of belongingโ cut straight to the heart of what made The Velveteen Rabbit so timeless. Most excellent. An easy fave. ๐๏ธ๐ฑ๐๐น
Just glad the essence of our chat and the memories that fuelled them have been immortalised in poem. Thank you for being consort to the Muse on this one.๐๐ป๐
You are most welcome, my friend. Thanks for "inviting" me in. ๐

Forgive the cat, it may confuse some... it was not meant to be the rabbit or replace it either.
I do not know this story, I read the write as the past meeting the present igniting feelings we had in younger days, that sadly are no longer true however much we wished they were, I found it very enjoyable
Thank you so much ๐๐ป๐ I am glad the essence could apply elsewhere. Something I have to better at considering.๐๐ป๐
You are very welcome
Fine story telling arqios.
