Haibun for Linda

Jerry Reynolds

occasionally
a moment originates
when it all makes sense

Hot bitter exhaust fumes
from the bus barely missed,
still lingered in the air.
He thrust his arm and finger
out to hitch.
A car came to a halt.
Dry broom straw crackling
beneath his feet.
Opening the chrome door handle,
scorching to the touch
with his handkerchief.
How could he have known?
This was one of those moments
where fate and chance collide
and life changes forever.

What a great poem of the coincidence in apparent randomness and how the road less taken makes all the difference. Lovely and I loved the way that you left the ending.
