Empathy

sorenbarrett

How sensitive are your ears? Can they hear the drops of tears?
You can hear the falling of the rain, why can't you hear the splash of pain?
How well can you see? Can you discern building clouds of misery?
You can notice the forming of a storm, why can't you see happiness' face deform?
What of touch, soft rabbit fur in the hutch, can you feel its fear to heal?
You know when your heart is broken, do you experience the tongue lash of a word ill spoken
And smell? Deteriorating relationships, can your nose tell?
So easy, sweet fragrance of the rose, what of mold in an unfaithful bed that grows?
Have you ever tasted poor self esteem or the flavor of a broken dream?
The bitterness of hate or sour regret at being too late

A beautiful reminder of empathy, unfortunately not everyone has this life tool, putting ones feet in the shoes of another to really see and feel is a true gift and life lesson, to those who acknowledge the world of another human. 🌹

Thank you my friend for the read and understanding words. Yes in this busy world the distractions keep us from seeing many of these things.

That is a regret that strikes hard and lasts an eternity.πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ™πŸ»

Thanks Cryptic for your continual reads of these passing thoughts of mine. It is most appreciated and valued

Passing thoughts have their sheen... like the slanting light late in the day... while others go to happy hour some listen the the day\'s last word; as we have here. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ™πŸ»

Empathy is what makes us good human beings and what makes life worth living.Take that away and we have Hitler and the gas chambers.Wonderful poem raising the ultimate questions about sympathy.

          • sorenbarrett

Thank you David it is interesting to me that in years of working with many that lack empathy toward humans they often have it toward certain chosen animals. I have always wondered why. Hitler was particularly fond of his pet German Shepard Blondi. I appreciate your patience with my ramblings and read and comment on this poem

Your words weave raw emotion so deep,
a mirror to souls that ache and weep.

This is a powerful exploration of empathy, questioning the sensitivity of our senses to the emotional pain and struggles of others..
It highlights the importance of being attuned to others' emotional pain. Well done!!!

A lovely write around the subject so lacking these days, genuine empathy towards living things. The one good thing that ever came out of my childhood is I have always cared and had empathy for other's, especially those less fortunate. Have never understood the justification of some people's lack of empathy to others due their childhood, it should make you care because you understand and have been there, if I didn't have empathy I could be a mass murderer and justify it on my past. Well needed and meaning write

Thank you Tobani your reads and kind words are always most appreciated and highly anticipated. A poet without empathy is but a dictionary with no feeling.

β€œCan they hear the drops of tears?...” Tears are the product of suffering. The cause of the suffering might be loud, but tears themselves are noiseless...
Similarly in the next line, there is the splash of pain. Both tears and pain are the product of suffering.
β€œthe flavor of a broken dream?...” β€œ this is sure a poetic way to describe the characteristic of a dream.
β€œI like walking in the rain, because nobody can see my tears.”

I like this piece. We should all have empathy for others. Empathy lets people know that they are not alone in their pain. Keep writing.
