Why Must It Be Like This

Akshadha_Joshi1310

Why must it be like this?

Which one of us here is being selfish?

Is it him ?

Being married, but still trying to get with you,

When did it all become so grim ?

I learnt this behaviour of his is not something new,

I couldn't believe for it to be true.

Is it you?

Rejecting him , rightfully so ,

And getting over it,

But with anger held inside still a bit .

He messaged me today after quite a while,

I was happy and started to tell you about it,

You glanced at me with a look so vile .

You told me you didn't want to talk to him,

But I didn't ask you to do that.

So I countered that with " I just wanted you to listen" ,

Just wanted you to know of our conversation,

But you made yourself the victim.

You said you didn't want to listen to me,

Oh.

Please. Change the prophecy !

When will it be me ?

Was I in the wrong?

It seems there is no place I'll ever belong.

And I promise you,

My affections for him weren't planned,

I don't even know anymore where I stand ,

Why must it be like this? I don't understand!

It seems that the ones writing the fates must detest me ,

To fill me up with glee,

Then put me in a predicament I can't get myself out of,

It's plain cruelty.

Will they accept my plea ?

About if they can redo ,

The prophecy.

It was all written,

I got cursed,

Was it all something I deserved?

Why must it be like this?

I will forever be stuck in this stygian abyss.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I might've gone a little too into the details when writing this. Probably cause I wasn't in the right head space 😬. Anyways, inspiration taken from The Prophecy by Taylor Swift.

Emotion so full of layers only to be found out later as they are peeled away in the aftermath of consequences. This poem delves with complexities of competing emotions and thought itself about what is right and wrong with relationships. Nicely written
