The Urge To Kill.

Poetic Licence

The Urge to Kill.

The need inside for me to kill him is getting ever strong.

Even though I know it will not change what has been done.

I have an increasing urge to right the wrongs of the past.

So, at last, I can stop wearing this eternal fake mask.

There was a time we were such unbreakable friends.

Somehow, he has managed to let me down again.

Side by side we travelled for many troubled years.

Now it is only him who is responsible for all my fears.

Daily he haunts me and constantly heightens the pain.

Tried to forget memories he makes me relive again.

No more can he be my trusted secret safe confident.

Now he has become the root of all my problems.

We have been through everything in my life together.

Now I realise, this relationship just cannot go on forever.

He keeps forcing and dragging me back to where it began.

His constant support I can no longer truly depend.

Our trusted friendship has sadly come to a bitter end.

He still relentlessly tries to play those emotional games.

To kill this man, would leave a giant vacuum inside.

Though it is a decision I have had to make, but is it right

Would it be a crime to take this Ex lifelong friend’s life.

Is it possible it would help another man to survive.

Tobani as I read this at first I pictured this as another individual then it felt like one talking to the dark side of oneself. Who has not wanted to kill their dark side? And who has not had that dark side with them all their life as their confidant and best friend? A deeply psychological write for me.

This is certainly a great poem about a dark subject. Without knowing what the Ex friend did to cause such hatred it is hard to take sides. The Good Book says Thou shalt not kill but by the same token Deliberate cruelty is unforgiveable. This is a deep poem made me concerned.

The answer to your closing questions is YES. This sort of self-evaluation is dangerous and often ends in personality disorders. The greater good comes from accepting the frailty of human beings and forgiving whoever is the object of your wrath. If it is you, remember that you are human as well. What is done is done. All that matters is today and your tomorrows. If something in your past is troubling you, perhaps you can make amends without resorting to violent means.
Your poetry was engrossing and captivating. It draws the reader in and makes them think. What more can one ask of a poet? Enjoyed my time with this poem. - Phl A.

Betrayal often enrages. But should that rage be allowed to engulf one's mind to the point of throttling the betrayer's neck? More so, what if the betrayer is one's own mind? There is no need to continue to be pally with such a victimiser. But, one suggestion is to get the best bargain by making the victimiser one's ally at arm's length.

Are you talking to yourself in this one?
Wait, I just checked the comments! Now, this recalls an old teaching where the demons are converted into guardians. Isn’t that a mystery?!

Very emotive words Tobani, that other side is within us all but you can learn from it to provide happiness to the good side. Find a box like I do to put the dark thoughts in and throw away the key.
