They come with sharpened pens,
dipped in the ink of insistence,
ready to carve lines into meaning,
to trim excess, to break form
where form should stand unbroken.
Poetry, they say, must kneel
before its rightful masters—
those who dictate rhythm,
who weigh metaphors against tradition,
who scoff at the unschooled,
the unstructured, the uninvited.
No room for wandering thoughts,
no space for jagged breath,
only clean syllables,
approved intentions—
as though verse were currency,
its value set by unseen hands.
The air thickens with scrutiny,
a silence stretched tight,
waiting for the next fracture,
the next stray image to be judged
unworthy.
But still, words find their way—
through gaps, through defiance,
through ink spilled not for approval
but for the sheer, reckless need to speak.

I think sometimes itβs best to write how we wish .. and In our way
I never follow a certain rhyme or anything ..
Thanks so much! Thatβs a true encouragement ποΈππ»
Cryptic it is the meaning of this poem that gets the fave. I hold poetry to be the ability to convey emotion in words. Poetry without emotion is merely a decoration an icing and without the substance of cake beneath it a simple window dressing for the eye not for the stomach or heart. A lovely work
Thanks Soren, that is certainly the truth to the matterπππ»
The world is big enough for all types of writing regardless of how poetic, structered, planned or randomly written they are, I myself as you say the need to speak, interesting write
Thank you dear friend πππ»
You are very welcome
For me this explores the so called rules of poetry and creativity. Poetry doesn't have to rhyme bit there is nothing wrong if it does. Surely to enjoy writing Poetry or any literature should be free.A great poem with a serious theme.
Good to have our ideas out thereπππ»Thanks amigo πͺΆ
MPS is an excellent venue for freedom of expression, as far as it has been around.
Beautiful, arqious.
Thanks Jerry, much appreciated πππ»
Yes, the gatekeepers keeping gates they were never appointed too. From the moment art was put on a wall to show the way to the next hunt, it has birthed and inspired more art. There is no gate to keep, art is in the eye of the beholder, as it is said, and I, for one, love busting gates open (or just kicking them if they won't budge. It's exercise at the very least π€£ and practice for the next gate) . Like storming the gates of hell! A very wonderful poem, my friend. Nay, an important and timely one, because the gatekeeping is real and IT IS A BUSINESS. That is why I love MPS, Poetizer, and other places because they open the gates wide. Again, this is most certainly a fave for every reason! πΉπ
There is a gatehouse in the distance and what it once had done it has bequeathed to the ensuing years. Thanks Tππ»ποΈ
Awesome write
Thanks so much Tony ππ»ποΈ
You're welcome
I really like your message, mate. Feels about right to me...However sometimes (and I don't mean here right now) there seem to be quite a number of poems about poetry to turn upon these pages. Now if that's not navel watching.... I have a picture in my head of swathes of people in floppy velvet hats, a rose under their nose prancing around chanting 'I wanna be/am a poet' LOL.
Poetry is for me merely the medium with which to convey an idea, a message. Could be film, a novel perhaps.....
But let's not spend time with those interminable and irritating questions such as 'What is poetry?', 'Why am I a poet?' Make the medium work. Bring issues to the table.
And I very much enjoyed the write !π
The poetry of life and living, now there is poetry worth breathing for. Thanks cobber ποΈππ»
Good on yer... lol
Those words can be written in many ways arqios, we do not have to do it in a particular way. Fine write.
Andy
That is exactly correct Andy, thank youποΈππ»
