divine

lunarchloedip

i know God must exist

because the way i fit on your chest

feels delightfully sacred

and you’re an atheist

but still listen to me testify

still feel the empty space

of your missing rib

still notice how i fit

like was designed from it

forever my hands holding yours

i imagine my God

smiling at me

through all of my life

all the strife

every time i cried

over someone who didn’t care

knowing that you’d be there

waiting for me at the end

i imagine him waiting

anticipating

our meet

the days you make me feel

like i don’t need to admit defeat

everything feels easier

when you’re with me

i am laying here, with you

surrendered completely to your touch

and though

my words are often overly honest

i can’t look you in the eyes

while i tell you

that you make me feel safe

because the joy that reflects back

into mine

is almost too much

nobody has ever looked at me

with so much joy

nobody has ever made me feel

like i’m more than a toy

nobody has ever held me

as softly

as tenderly

as gently

as sacredly

as you do

nobody has cradled me

or comforted me

the way you do

i think God created me

to be with you

crafted me

put a heart in me

never parted from me

to see me love you

might he shake his head fondly

when i make a mistake

knowing that you’ll help me

find the right way

and in your absence

my hands scream

for your palms

my eyes weep

for yours

and my heart cries

for the pulse

of your chest

i like me best

when i’m with you

  • Comment from author about the poem: i usually don’t go back to poems or edit them at all what’s written in the moment is never changed because i cannot recreate the same headspace i was in when i wrote it. this is one of the few i’ve come back to and rewritten, and i couldn’t tell you why. no idea. it just happened

Yes I recognized this one from before and it still reads nicely as I was trying to pick out the changes that you made.

it was just a couple of lines that i felt didn’t flow very well, hopefully it’s a bit better now. thanks for reading!
