The Harrowing Hoodie

I walk up the road,

Animatedly talking with my sister,

About how excited I am for my performance.

 

This is going to be huge for me,

One of my biggest opportunities,

I need to be at the top of my game.

 

We turn the corner,

My breath is stolen from my lungs,

When I see her.

 

Walking down the street,

My boyfriends best friend,

Wearing his favourite hoodie.

 

She goes red, offering a quick wave

Before running off.

I’m stunned,

But the show must go on.

 

I wasn’t worried,

But now?

Now I am,

About more than just my performance.

 

I get a brief chance to speak to him before my performance,

I ask him if he gave her his hoodie.

He swiftly says no.

 

I get onto the stage,

My eyes finding them,

Talking happily before the show.

She had changed out of the hoodie.

 

I felt my heart shatter as the backing track began
