CONFIDENCE
Certitude is as car exhaust
It does exist when emitted
But will quickly evaporate
Yet for some, faith will do
Keeping that delicate view
Something to contemplate
And challenge is permitted
Views develop unenforced
Surety is on shifting sands
Doubt washes like the tide
But roots deepen with age
Open minds aren’t forever
Mere belief, or just clever
Never a need to be a sage
Knowing what stays inside
Concepts one understands
Conviction is a scary thing
After hardly any reflection
No more need to ask why
Or what the foundation is
Whether solid or mere fizz
As it floats like a butterfly
Hoping to avoid detection
See it flutter and take wing

Great metaphors used here and a subject that is obtuse in its certainty. Well stated
Much depth to a poem which is really engineered towards an argument I can relate to. Faved and many thanks.
